Thirty-seven new two-family houses on four nearby sites have been provided in the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn. The three story buildings are designed for Owner occupancy. The ground floor is a rental unit with two bedrooms. The upper unit is the Owner’s duplex with three bedrooms and access to a rear yard. Both apartments open to the street eliminating public hallways.
The houses are constructed of modular pre-fabricated units and are built locally in the Brooklyn Navy Yards. The units are trucked to the site for assembly providing an efficient and economically feasible housing solution. The facades facing the street are alternating shades of red brick. Fiberglass cornices and bay windows evoke the 19th century middle class housing stock of Brooklyn.
The project was awarded the Building Award for Excellence in Design and Construction by the Queens and Bronx Building Association in 2006.
