The renovation of this 6-floor cast-iron building is the fourth commission undertaken for the Chinatown Health Clinic Foundation by The Edelman Partnership. The Clinic includes General Medicine, OBGYN, and Mental Health Services as well as Administrative Offices. Building systems were replaced, and a new elevator was installed. The design of the interior takes advantage of the building’s multiple floors to break the clinical areas into specialties. This allows for intimate settings and calm waiting areas which feel similar to private medical practices. Lighting and finishes have been modulated to help orient patients and staff to their location within the building. The building is in a Landmarks District. The exterior restoration included replacing an original center column at the facade which was removed in a previous renovation, repairing the cast iron and brick facades, and selecting paint colors and lighting for the facade to emphasize the unique cast iron detailing.
