The New Settlement Community Campus offers a unique model for school development. Through a partnership between Settlement Housing Fund, New Visions, the New York City Department of Education and the School Construction Authority, this new campus will include two new schools: a Primary School and an Intermediate/High School, as well as a Community Center. The schools will serve 1163 students, while the integrated campus will provide programming for thousands of neighborhood residents.
Highlights of the program include a 75 yard swimming pool, an auditorium, a competition gymnasium, a library/technology hub and an outdoor amphitheater and play yards. The two-story mass running along Jerome Avenue houses the public spaces while the classroom portion of the building is rotated in order to set itself apart as a distinct architectural element. The library dramatically cantilevers over the main school entrances, highlighting the role of literacy and technology in the community.
